INPI Approves New Fees, Establishes a Periodically Updated Fee System, and Creates the Industrial Property Fee Unit (UMAPI)
On March 20, 2026, Resolution No. 75/2026 of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) was published in the Official Gazette. Through this resolution, new fees applicable to the services provided by the agency are approved, and the Industrial Property Fee Unit (UMAPI, as per its acronym in Spanish) is created.
The resolution establishes that the new fees expressed in Argentine pesos will enter into force on April 1, 2026. It further provides that the UMAPI will be effectively implemented as of May 1, 2026, from which date the monthly adjustment mechanism set forth in the regulation will begin to operate.
According to the resolution, the UMAPI is created as a reference unit for expressing certain industrial property fees. Its initial value is set at one hundredth of the fee corresponding to a new trademark application in one class, covering up to 20 goods or services, as established in the annex approved by the same regulation.
The UMAPI will be updated on a monthly basis, according to the general level of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by INDEC. The regulation provides that the updated value will apply from the first day of the month following the publication of the relevant index and will be made available on INPI’s online filing portal.
The resolution also clarifies that the UMAPI will not apply to certain specific cases, including:
(i) variable fees;
(ii) payment of fee differences; and
(iii) fees calculated as a percentage of the economic value of contracts, as well as any other fees not expressly included in the annex.
From a practical standpoint, this amendment introduces a fee structure with periodic updates aimed at providing greater predictability and ensuring that official fees remain up to date.
